I first printed this design on a small wooden panel to get the proportions correct. Then I translated it to a large rice paper panel, first painting the paper with an off white neutral back gound. Using a variety of carved blocks, the design took shape. I was inspired by old Japanese print designs from the 60's. Of course I had to use the iconic colors red & black.

Each edition is unique unto itself due to the randomness of the printing process. 
Each of these abstract, monochramtic products in the Scorparium series is a
connection to the simpleness of form seen in the natural world.
