I was tring to campture the feeling of openess one feels when looking out from the bridge under 183 on the Southern Walnut Creek bike trail. It's not the prettiest scene but there is something about the view of down town one can see in the far distance. On all sides of the creek its overgrown with wild, scrubby bushes and trees. Leaning into the open sky above....
 
I drew the scene on Windsor and Newton printmaking paper. Accents are drawn with colored pencils and the sky is a splash of Japenese ink. I then cut the scene into pieces and glued it back together to add a little character......
 
Simple yet bold & visually compelling. Hand drawn botanical illustrations mounted on painted black wood panel.
