This piece was inspired by life & death, by way of the natural world. As one can see I love melding different mediums together to create a modern yet old fashioned look. This piece has a quality of agedness, obtained by layering small three dimensional details of imitation butterflies, moths & beetles, then applying fake gold leaf. The painted oval on wood represents the circle of life which overlaps with the process of death seen as the overlapping shape at the bottom of the composition. Above and below - capturing the fragility of nature & life itself.  Inspired by17th century French and English botanical drawings which catalog species that are now extinct.
